Strange and Beautiful- Aqualung
Thank you Shrew for this song.
A lot of it is what i've always wanted to say, but never gathered the guts to put it in my own words. You see, when you put something in your own words, you have to take ownership for it. And thats a responsibility i'm not ready for yet.
Strange and Beautiful- Aqualung
I've been watching your world from afar,
I've been trying to be where you are,
And I've been secretly falling apart,
I'll see.
To me, you're strange and you're beautiful,
You'd be so perfect with me but you just can't see,
You turn every head but you don't see me.
I'll put a spell on you,
You'll fall asleep and I'll put a spell on you.
And when I wake you,
I'll be the first thing you see,
And you'll realise that you love me.
Yeah...
Yeah...
Sometimes, the last thing you want comes in first,
Sometimes, the first thing you want never comes,
And I know, that waiting is all you can do,
Sometimes...
I'll put a spell on you,
You'll fall asleep,
I'll put a spell on you,
And when I wake you,
I'll be the first thing you see,
And you'll realise that you love me.
I'll put a spell on you,
You'll fall asleep 'cos I'll put a spell on you,
And when I wake you,
I'll be the first thing you see,
And you'll realise that you love me, yeah...

On a different note, one of my new year resolutions is to start listening to a wider range of singers and bands. I don't mean I'm going to start liking the genres that I've never liked before, but just start listening to more quality music. Any suggestions?

Quality as in lyrics-wise?
trust me, listen to radiohead albums and stuff. listening to radiohead is really very good in that if you really love it, you will definitely develop a very eclectic taste in music. so, apart from radiohead music in itself being exceptionally awesome, it's also a great starting point. i lend you next year :)
i just KNEW karthik was gonna say radiohead :P if yóu were thinking diversity, i'd recommend stuff along the indian electronica line such as Talvin Singh and Nitin Sawhney.both their early stuff is really good.nit has collabo-ed with aqualung too, most recently on his album Human. for something a bit more unique, i'd recommend Jack Johnson, the surfer dude from hawaii. thats true aloha spirit in his music and thats hard to come by in..singapore :P its all breezy and feel good, like sipping on a ilaniir(young coconut..i hope thats the correct tamil word i used) other than that, coldplay, robbie williams and the darkness will always be around to give the world quality music, imho :D
hey take lots of care, dearest. & see you in school soon! (though i dread how amazingly fast this hols have been. sounds very cliched hor.) okay love!

:) thanks you guys.
@ karthik: will definitely use radiohead as a starting point. and yes, i would like it if you could lend me their stuff. :)
@anjali: oh, okay. i heard some nitin sawhney songs recently, i think fom The Prophesy. very interesting music. You can tell he does it for the music, and not for anything else. Will check it out sometime. thanks.
@Huiting: I know. these hols have passed by faster than expected. Even for someone who has not been doing much, like me. I miss you too, and wish we could be partners again next year. ):
@Dee: YAYAYAYAYAY! im so glad you're back i missed you to bits! and yes, i am still willing to try music from your tastes. so bring it on, babeh! :)
Anjali- Hello! I don't know you, but I really like your name. It reminds me of that nice song from Duet! (I think?):)
Ah, Talvin Singh. I was in this music shop in India and they were playing a CD of his. Only heard about ten minutes' worth but it's awesome stuff! :>
Hm off the top of my head, other bands I like are Death Cab for Cutie, Jimmy Eat World, Smashmouth, Snow Patrol. I haven't heard entire albums by them though, just selected songs, but I like them :) They're not extremely esoteric or anything though. But mainstream can be good!
Oh, The Corrs. They make me feel happy (:
HARRY AND THE POTTERS!!! There's a whole genre of wizard rock now actually, but HatP are the only decent ones, IMO. Draco and the Malfoys are acceptable :P
*ponders* If I had a wizard rock band I'd call it The Bang-Ended Scoots!
SUFJAN STEVENSSS
Okay am rambling. Um Franz Ferdinand is a given. The Bravery is not bad. The Libertines are *gasp* actually quite pleasant to my ears now. I think music grows on you ;)
Btw, Karthik, if you happen to be reading this, I happened to um, chance upon some Radiohead music, shall we say, and I quite like it. Though I prolly sound like I'm jumping on some bandwagon. They're interesting. A bit like Coldplay? :)
SORRY TO SPAM SNEE I AM INCORRIGIBLE D:
hiya dee aka bangendedscoot! anjali here.aw thanks mate :D yeah there was a song in duet(dont remind me please) and i cant seem to get a link to contact you at your livejournal add :S let's leave this place for sneha's stuff ya? ;)(Sorry sneham)
hahaha dee.
What's IMO. You have progressed far, my young padawan. :) And I think Karthik loves it when people jump on the bandwagon.
Anjali- http://livejournal.com/users/bangendescoot. I should warn you, though, that you won't be finding entries that display great maturity and intellect like Sneha's ;)
You know, I think I might have met you before, if you used to go for Project Vidya activities in primary school :P
Sneha- IMO is short for "in my opinion". Heh. Sorry, was lazy. But yeah, Radiohead really is quite good (:
oh sufjan stevens... come on feel the illinoise! great stuff.. i really have to buy that album, it's there on my wishlist.. i love that song, 'john wayne gacy jr' or something.. and this following bit is something what chris martin had to say about radiohead and coldplay.
Here's a little bit from this months Q magazine. An interview with Coldplay's Chris Martin & Ricky Gervais:
How will Coldplay develop? You've mentioned you'd like to work with Timbaland.
RG: What, the boots people?
CM: Yeah, the people who make boots.
RG: Bruce Foxton's got a brand new pair of Timberlands.
CM: Yeah, I thought what we need to do next is a CD that comes in a pair of durable walking boots, so you can listen to it when you're hiking.
RG: You're going for the working class vote now aren't you? [Thinks] Who are your fans?
CM: Ah, man, it's tricky. I don't think we'd be anywhere is Radiohead didn't exist. I think we're like why Diet Coke was big. Because some people couldn't handle Coke. That's how i see Coldplay.
RG: That's very humbling.
:)
Okay, at least he acknowledged that relationship, then. Which is good. :>
Egad, that John Wayne Gacy Jr, he's one scary guy. I have a couple of songs from that album, if you want to hear them. The guy has such a calming voice (at least from the songs I've heard) that his songs are always nice to listen to before sleeping :P
@karthik: I think Coldplay is vastly different from Radiohead, and I don't see the comparision. I appreciate both for what they are, individually. But pray tell, why people call Coldplay a child of Radiohead?
Hm I thought they sounded a little bit alike actually.
I don't care, the uber-serious fans with great musical knowledge can go fight it out over which spawned off which and all that, I'll just enjoy both :>
Heh.
on a few levels, coldplay and radiohead are somewhat similar. take thom yorke and chris martin. for instance, they both sing, write their band's lyrics, play the piano and the guitar. both of them do things to raise awareness/funds for SP&E issues. musically, both bands have drawn from similar influences like u2 stadium anthems and pink floyd soundscapes and textures. and their songs are both cerebral and emotional, to some extent i think.
and yeah John Wayne Gacy Jr was one scary guy.. the song is awesome.
